GOALS
If there’s one thing about goals I’ve always wondered, it’s how specific do the goals have to be? Do we need benchmarks? Timelines? Specific numbers?
What brings up this notion is my “goal” to write regular blog posts. Unlike keeping a diary, blog posts are not “secret musings”. Blog posts (most of them, anyway) are very public. With just a scrolling of a mouse, anyone can look through this blog and discover my “grand goal” from 2018 to write regular posts on this blog FAILED MISERABLY! As I invite you to discover, I wrote a total of TWO blog posts in all of 2018!
TWO (2)
It wasn’t that I didn’t have much to write about…rather…2018 was an INCREDIBLE year for me! Most significantly, my life and family changed forever with the birth of my first grandchild on August 1st, LEVI JAMES MULDER! He is the most precious baby, and the most incredible blessing I could ever imagine!
Even with so much to celebrate (and write about), how is it that I created a miserable TWO blog posts in all of 2018?
I this a big part of the “failure” was that goal was not specific enough. As time went by in 2018, and as I went days, weeks, months WITHOUT posting…I thought it would be ridiculous to start posting again. Let me clarify: I need a new “starting day” for writing again. So, when I failed to post on the day Levi was born, I thought I had missed the window for posting about his birth! What I failed to realize was the idea of starting, resuming, continuing the venture was the important part! (No matter how many days, weeks or months I may miss between posts)
So…for success in 2019 (and beyond)…I will be more specific in setting my goals! So, I’m laying out a set of goals that are specific, but not daunting. These posts have measurable objectives, and timelines that make monitoring the achievements fairly simple.
