Tracking the Progress

Tracking the Progress

The best Christmas present I received this past year was a Fitbit. The gift was thoughtfully given to me by my 20-year old very active daughter.

As the youngest in the family, Jenn has had a “birds-eye” view of all of my “good intentions”. Especially those that involve getting healthier! She has heard the frequent refrains from the pledges that I make to myself: “I’m going to work out regularly”; “I’m going to sleep more”; “I’m going to drink more water”; “I’m going to eat healthier”…the list goes on and on!

With the gift of a Fitbit, I’ve been able to set daily goals…AND have a way to measure those goals. Plain and simple. I have an actual, physical way to monitor my activity and sleep. The Fitbit takes away the guesswork. At any given moment during the day, I can check the device and get an idea of how much I have “been moving”. Most importantly, I can see how much more I have to do each day to reach the goal.

What a surprise to also receive a weekly report! Delivered right to my e-mail, I can see how much all of those daily efforts are adding up! The goal of 10,000 steps per day would have added up to 70,000 steps for the week. I missed that goal for last week, but I know the competitor in me will make every attempt to not miss it again!

I do have to celebrate walking a total of just under 28-miles last week, with an average daily burn of nearly 1,800 calories.

I still have some work to do on some of the other goals, but now that I am able to actually see a weekly summary of the activities I know that I will focus my energy on making continued improvements.

Tracking the Progress. It’s a big key to MAKING progress.

(Now I just need to find a similar system for keeping tabs on the other areas of my life)
