I have to confess my latest "addiction".....watching the Olympic games! I'll admit, along with millions across the globe, I'm swept up in the incredible competition that is going on in London.
I love the dedication shown by the athletes....to work so hard to train for almost a lifetime to reach the very peak of a chosen sport.
I celebrate the sacrifice by the parents and family members...knowing how many other wants and needs are set aside so the athlete can train and compete.
I admire the focus by the athletes....knowing the "world is watching"....and still they perform like they are training alone.
I cheer for those who achieve victory.....winning an Olympic medal!
But...mostly I envy those who display amazing grace and courage in the face of defeat. For those who do not take home a medal, or perform up the expectations of others (& themselves)....but still manage to cheer for their teammates...I say they are the TRUE CHAMPIONS! They are the athletes who teach all of us the most important lessons in life! For there may not be a medal hanging around their neck, but they will be standing on the podium of a successful life.
Yes....I love the Olympics....and all of the emotions the athletes allow the rest of us to feel.
